Central Park, Denver
The old Stapleton grid — 80 acres of lawn, the A Line, and HOA parks in every pocket
Central Park is Denver’s largest statistical neighborhood: the 80238 new-urbanist reuse of Stapleton Airport. The namesake park on MLK is the civic lawn. Sub-hoods (North End, Westerly Creek, Conservatory Green) live like separate villages. You buy a plan, not a 1920s grid.
How to spend a day in Central Park
Walk the 80-acre park on MLK — playground, pond, the sledding hill in winter — then the A Line at Central Park Station if downtown is the errand. Sam Gary Library on Roslyn is the indoor hour. Rec center is on the east side of the same park. King Soopers on 29th Drive is the cart. Northfield is the national-chain Saturday if 29th already feels like a village square. Stanley Marketplace on Dallas Street is the food-and-shop hall — it sits in Aurora; say so — the weekend when Northfield is already a big box. Westerly Creek Elementary on 28th is the ECE–5 campus the south pockets actually use — walk the 28th frontage if the lease comes with a first-grader. The North End on Central Park Blvd is the other village square — shops and kitchens north of I-70, the pocket if 29th Drive is already a scene. Fire Station 26 on MLK at Trenton is the house that covers the 80-acre lawn — useful context if you are pricing a porch in Westerly Creek and sirens are already the neighbor. Bill Roberts on Akron Way is the K–8 campus the east pockets use when Westerly Creek is already the south school. Bluff Lake Nature Center on the east edge of MLK is the 123-acre refuge — free trails dawn to dusk, the walk if the 80-acre park is already a playground. Swigert International at 3480 Syracuse is the PK–5 on the east grid — the school question if Westerly Creek Elementary is already the other campus and Northfield is already the cart. DSST Conservatory Green on Stoll is the middle-school campus if Bluff Lake is already the weekend. Home Depot at 3870 Quebec is the lumber aisle on the Park Hill edge — labeled Park Hill because that is the store, the Saturday if Sprouts is already groceries. Costco at 4741 N Airport Way is the bulk run — membership required, the cart if King Soopers on 29th is already the weeknight grocery and Sprouts is already produce. Quebec Square on 35th is the big-box lot — the errand when King Soopers on 29th is already the village cart and Northfield is already a Saturday.
The Central Park walk · about 2 hours
- Central Park (Park) — 80 acres at 8801 E MLK — Denver’s third-largest park, playground, pond, fields, the lawn the 2020 rename pointed at. Pocket parks in the sub-hoods are closer to most doors; this is the civic one.
8801 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Denver, CO 80238 - Central Park Station (A Line) (Landmark) — A Line to Union Station and DIA — the reason a car-light lease can work this far east. Parking garage fills on Broncos and airport days. The park is the lawn; this is the train.
Central Park Blvd & E 16th Ave, Denver, CO 80238 - Sam Gary Branch Library (Culture) — Denver Public Library on Roslyn — holds, story time, the indoor civic room when the 80 acres are wind. Closed some federal holidays. Rec is the swim; this is the quiet table.
2961 Roslyn St, Denver, CO 80238 - Central Park Recreation Center (Park) — City rec on the east edge of the big park — pool, gym, the year-round swim the pocket parks do not give you. MY Denver Card for youth and 60+. Open seven days.
9651 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Denver, CO 80238 - King Soopers (29th Drive) (Shop) — Full grocery in the 29th Avenue Town Center — pharmacy, pickup, the cart Central Park fills without driving Quebec. Open daily. Northfield is the bigger box if this lot is already a scene.
10155 E 29th Dr, Denver, CO 80238 - Westerly Creek (Outdoors) — The daylighted creek and greenway through the south-central pockets — the daily path if the 80-acre park is already a destination. Connects toward Sand Creek if you keep going east.
Westerly Creek Pkwy & 26th Ave, Denver, CO 80238 - Northfield (Shop) — The north commercial — Harkins, national chains, the Saturday that is not 29th Drive. Still in the statistical neighborhood. The village squares are closer to most doors; this is the big lot.
8300 Northfield Blvd, Denver, CO 80238 - Stanley Marketplace (Aurora) (Shop) — Former aviation factory at 2501 Dallas — 50+ local shops and kitchens, free lots, open daily. It sits in Aurora, not Denver; say so. Northfield is the national-chain Saturday; this is the hall Central Park drives ten minutes east for when 29th Drive is already a village square.
2501 Dallas St, Aurora, CO 80010 - Westerly Creek Elementary (Landmark) — DPS ECE–5 at 8800 E 28th — the campus the south Central Park pockets actually use when the 80-acre lawn is already a destination and Sam Gary is already the library. Walk it if the lease is Conservatory Green or the north pockets; the 80-acre park is still the civic lawn south of the interstate.
8371 Northfield Blvd, Denver, CO 80238 - Denver Fire Station 26 (Landmark) — The engine house on MLK at Trenton — Central Park coverage, the sirens if you live off the 80-acre lawn. Not a tour. Sam Gary is the library; this is the house that covers Westerly Creek and the A Line garage. Walk the MLK frontage if you are pricing a porch and King Soopers on 29th is already the cart.
7934 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Denver, CO 80238 - Bill Roberts K-8 (Landmark) — DPS K–8 at 2100 Akron Way — the campus the east Central Park pockets use when Westerly Creek is already the south school and Sam Gary is already the library. Confirm gate hours before you treat it as a night loop.
11255 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Denver, CO 80238 - Swigert International School (Landmark) — DPS elementary at 3480 Syracuse — PK–5, the school families actually ask about on the Central Park grid. 8499 E Stoll Pl, Denver, CO 80238 - The Home Depot (Quebec) (Shop) — Lumber, paint, and keys at 3870 Quebec — labeled Park Hill because that is the side of the street. Central Park's cart is King Soopers and Sprouts; this is the truck aisle if a new lease comes with a wall. Open early until late. Quebec is the wall; do not treat it as a Northfield stroll.
3870 Quebec St, Denver, CO 80207 - Costco Wholesale (Central Park) (Shop) — The warehouse at 4741 N Airport Way on the Central Park east edge — bulk grocery, pharmacy, tires, the membership cart if King Soopers on 29th Drive is already the weeknight run and Sprouts is already produce. Street parking on event nights fills the boulevard.
5500 Central Park Blvd, Denver, CO 80238 - A.F. Williams Family Medicine (Central Park) (Landmark) — CU family clinic at 3055 Roslyn — primary care for the Stapleton grid, not an ER.
