University Park, Denver

Observatory Park, DU’s east edge, and the houses south of Evans

University Park is the residential grid east of the University of Denver — Observatory Park, Chamberlin’s dome, and bungalows that price like south-central without the Wash Park brand. University Station and Harvard Gulch sit on the edges. Pulse files this as University Park, not University.

How to spend a day in University Park

Observatory Park and the 1894 Chamberlin dome first, walk the campus edge if you want students as weather, then Harvard Gulch if you want a path instead of a quad. University Station is the rail if the lease does not come with two cars. The grocery cart is usually Downing or Evans, not a market street. University Park Elementary on St. Paul is the campus the bungalows actually use — walk the St. Paul frontage if the lease comes with a first-grader. Snarf’s on Evans is the toasted sandwich after the rail — open late enough that DU is already a crowd. The University Park Post Office on Buchtel is the 80210 window — hold mail, the form you file when the bungalow lease starts. Harvard Gulch Rec on Iliff is the gym and seasonal outdoor pool — closed Sundays, MY Denver Card for youth and 60+. Ace at 2500 S Colorado is the hardware east of Colorado Blvd — paint, keys, labeled University Hills because that is the store. Fire Station 24 at 2695 S Colorado is the University Hills house that covers the bungalows — useful context if you are pricing a porch east of DU and sirens are already the neighbor. Iliff School of Theology on Iliff at University is the 1892 seminary on the west campus wall — public events on the calendar, metered visitor parking, the neighbor if Observatory Park is already a playground. Jerusalem Restaurant at 1890 E Evans is the DU-edge Mediterranean room since 1964 — late, the plate if Snarf’s is already a sandwich and Observatory Park is already a playground. The Newman Center at 2344 E Iliff is the concert hall on the DU edge — Lamont and the presenting series, the bill if Observatory Park is already the lawn and University Station is already the rail. Wellshire Golf on Colorado Blvd is the public round if Ritchie is already the arena. King Soopers at 2750 S Colorado is the University Hills cart — labeled University Hills, pharmacy and a full aisle if the Downing store is already the walk. Mustard's Last Stand at 2081 S University is the DU hot-dog counter — labeled Rosedale edge, the late bite if Snarf's is already a sandwich and Jerusalem is already dinner. Swedish Medical Center at 501 E Hampden is the Englewood ER — labeled Englewood, the hospital if Porter is already the other campus and DU is already the neighbor.
