Congress Park, Denver

The park between Cheesman and Colorado Blvd — pool, tennis, and Colfax as the north wall

Congress Park is the east-of-Cheesman grid: York to Colorado Blvd, 6th to Colfax. The park itself is tennis, a summer pool, and the lawn people use when Cheesman is already a scene. Colfax is the noisy edge; 9th and 12th are how the houses actually live.

How to spend a day in Congress Park

Walk the park and the outdoor pool if it is season, then north to Tattered Cover on Colfax for the indoor hour. King Soopers on Colorado Blvd is the cart. Botanic Gardens is a short walk west across York — that campus sits in Cheesman, not inside this hood, and it is still the all-day pin if the park lawn is not enough. Capitol Heights Pharmacy on 12th at Madison is the independent counter — scripts and a bottle shop, closed Sunday. Blue Pan on 12th at Madison is the Detroit-style pie next door — weeknights until 9, Friday–Saturday until 10. Carla Madison Rec on Colfax at Josephine is the year-round swim — two indoor pools, gym, climbing, open seven days. Huckleberry at 801 Colorado is the 7 a.m. cup in the old Starbucks — daily until 4, the morning if 12th is already pizza. 12th Avenue Ace at 2640 E 12th is the hardware — paint, keys, the plunger King Soopers will not explain. Fire Station 15 on Harrison at 13th is the stone house that covers the grid — useful context if you are pricing a house on Steele and sirens are already the neighbor. Teller Elementary on Garfield at 12th is the ECE–5 campus Congress Park families actually use — walk the Garfield frontage if the lease comes with a first-grader. HCA HealthONE Rose on 9th at Clermont sits in Hale — say so — the ER and birth center east of Colorado Blvd if King Soopers is already the cart. Steve’s Snappin’ Dogs at 3525 E Colfax is the Chicago dog counter on the north wall — late, cheap, the plate if Blue Pan is already pizza and Tattered is already closed. Trader Joe's at 750 N Colorado is the other cart — grocery at 8th and Colorado, wine shop next door at 790, the run when King Soopers on Colorado is already a line. Twist & Shout on the Colfax edge is the record wall if Trader Joe's is already the cart. Colfax and Colorado is the new bus-lane stop — the ride if Trader Joe's is already the cart and Rose is already the hospital. 7th Avenue Parkway is the orientation street — the grass median movers use to read the grid between Cheesman and Colorado Boulevard. Park Burger at 211 S Holly is the Hilltop counter — labeled Hilltop, open daily 11–9, the burger if Trader Joe's is already the cart.
