Lowry, Denver
The old Air Force base — hangars, a town center on Quebec, and a lawn instead of a downtown
Lowry Field is the 80230 reuse of the closed Air Force base: hangars turned museum and offices, a town center on Quebec, and a Great Lawn that does the park job Wash Park does farther west. Pulse files it as Lowry Field. It is not Park Hill and it is not Central Park — smaller, quieter, and the base streets still show.
How to spend a day in Lowry
Start on the Great Lawn, walk Quebec through Town Center for Safeway and the weekday coffee, then Wings Over the Rockies if a hangar is the indoor hour. Lowry Beer Garden is the patio when the lawn is already a wind tunnel. Quebec is the wall; Alameda is how you leave for Cherry Creek or I-225. Target at 93 N Quebec is the household aisle — diapers, a printer, the cart Safeway does not cover. Lowry Elementary on Cedar is the ECE–5 campus the base houses actually use — walk the Cedar frontage if the lease comes with a first-grader. The High Line Canal at 1st and Quebec is the dirt path off the base grid — dawn to dusk, the walk if the Great Lawn is already a playground. Fire Station 18 on Alameda at Yosemite is the house that covers the south base — useful context if you are pricing a hangar-block house and sirens are already the neighbor. George Washington High on Monaco is the campus Lowry and Hilltop families actually use — walk the Monaco frontage if the lease comes with a teenager. Denver Beer Co on Lowry Blvd is the taproom if Lowry Beer Garden is already a patio and Town Center is already Safeway. Schlessman Family Branch Library at 100 S Poplar is the Lowry desk — holds and a meeting room when Wings is already a ticket and Town Center is already Safeway. Big Bear Ice Arena at 8580 Lowry is the indoor rink — public skate, learn-to-skate, hockey, the winter pin if the Great Lawn is already a puddle. Lowry Dog Park on the dam trail is the off-leash hour if Wings is already the museum. Crestmoor Park at 1st and Kearney is the east lawn — labeled Crestmoor, the grass if the Great Lawn is already a playground and the dog park is already off-leash. Place Bridge Academy at 7125 Cherry Creek North is the ECE–8 newcomer campus — the school if Lowry Elementary is already the boundary school and Wings is already the hangar. The Lowry-area post office is at 8275 E 11th and Uinta — labeled Mayfair, the window USPS points Lowry residents to for a hold and a form.
