Lincoln Park, Denver

La Alma / Santa Fe — the park, the arts strip, and downtown as the east wall

Lincoln Park is the west-of-downtown grid the city also calls La Alma: a namesake park on Mariposa, Santa Fe Drive galleries and theaters, and Denver Health as a neighbor. Pulse files it as Lincoln Park. It is not the Golden Triangle and it is not Baker — Santa Fe is the culture strip, not Broadway.

How to spend a day in Lincoln Park

Start in Lincoln Park, walk Santa Fe for Museo de las Americas and Su Teatro, then decide whether 10th & Osage is the train or the Baker Safeway on Alameda is the cart. First Friday on Santa Fe changes the night. Auraria and the viaducts are weather, not scenery. La Alma Rec on 11th is the gym and game room next to the park — closed Sundays, MY Denver Card for youth and 60+. The Emhoolah Jr. Branch on Santa Fe at 7th is the 1918 Carnegie library — holds and a desk when First Friday is already a crowd; closed Saturday and Sunday. Fire Station 11 at 40 W 2nd is the house on the Baker seam — useful context if you are pricing a house off Santa Fe and sirens are already the neighbor. Fire Station 1 on Colfax at Lipan is the downtown-west house — headquarters next door, the other sirens if the park is home and Auraria is already a campus. El Taco de Mexico at 714 Santa Fe is the counter since 1985 — 7 a.m.–9 p.m. most days, Sunday from 9, the plate if Museo is already a gallery and Safeway is already the cart in Baker. Greenlee on Lipan at 11th is the ECE–5 campus Lincoln Park families actually use — walk the Lipan frontage if the lease comes with a first-grader. Denver Inner City Parish on Mariposa is the pantry and emergency desk the block actually uses — check the schedule; the historic chapel at 910 Galapago is the landmark, not the walk-in door. The Buckhorn Exchange at 1000 Osage is Denver’s oldest restaurant still serving — 1893, a reservation, the table if El Taco is already a counter and 10th & Osage is already the train. The MSU Denver Center for Visual Art at 965 Santa Fe is the free-admission gallery on the arts strip — the room if Su Teatro is already a ticket and the Buckhorn is already a steak. Fire Station 1 on Colfax is the house that covers the Santa Fe edge if Denver Health is already the ER. CHAC Gallery at 772 Santa Fe is the arts-district room — the First Friday stop if Museo is already the museum and Su Teatro is already the stage. CORE New Art Space at 900 Santa Fe is the artist-run gallery — First Friday, the room if Su Teatro is already a ticket and the Buckhorn is already dinner. El Chingon at 722 Santa Fe took the old El Noa Noa room in 2025 — the patio on First Friday if Su Teatro is already a bill and Buckhorn is already a steak.
